My department is arranging a business trip/field trip/outing. What risks or insurance issues do I need to consider?
[Top] Any time you or members of your department leave UCSF for a conference, event, or field trip, you are increasing the risks to which UCSF may be exposed. If you or members of your staff are injured or are involved in an accident, related expenses will likely be covered by UC’s Workers’ Compensation program if the trip is work-related. However, if non-UCSF staff or visitors are involved, coverage may not be available. And if you are traveling for long periods, or great distances (especially out of the country), the risks you face are multiplied: disease, accidents, environmental hazards, all must be considered. These risks must be anticipated and managed BEFORE you leave on your trip. RMIS is developing a Travel Safety website (to be launched in 2008). For travel insurance coverage information, go to the Travel Safety Management page.
