No, an email from Moodle is like any other email. Perhaps more importantly is the email server on your site. PHP will send out the mail using its built-in mail server but some sites will need a specific Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) server to relay the mail. Moodle has settings to do this. If you want a different mail program on your local computer, then there are many different ones to choose, such as Thunderbird.
