My daughter has a September 3rd birthday. Will she be able to attend kindergarden in the year that she turns 5 or will she have to wait a full year and be almost 6 to begin school?
The state law states, “No child may be admitted to a 5-year-old kindergarten unless he or she is 5 years old on or before Spetember 1 in the year he or she proposes to enter school.” The state law, in another section of the statutes, does allow school districts to make exceptions, which our school district does for gifted students. You would need to contact the school district office at 768-5887 to arrange to have your child go through the screening and testing process in order to see if your child would qualify for early entrance.
