My cucumbers look great, but my cantaloupes wilt and are not growing. What is the problem?
Dig down and check the roots. Most likely you have a nematode problem. If the roots are swollen and knotty, the plants are being attacked and are not going to be productive. Cantaloupes and cucumbers are susceptible to nematodes, which are microscopic round worms in the soil. Certain ones attack susceptible plants, causing wilting and nutritional problems. No control exists except to replace the soil or bake the roundworms out of the ground using solarization techniques.
