My computer is running extremely slowly. What could be the problem?
ONE THING I haven’t seen mentioned here yet… if you have already ran spyware and virus scans (I recommend windows defender for spyware from www.microsoft.com/defender and avast antivirus for av program from www.avast.com ) and they have come up clean, then try this: Open TASK MANAGER (alt-ctrl-del and click TASK MANAGER) when the PC is running super slow. Look at the bottom and see what the CPU USAGE is. It will be listed in percent. If the entire PC is running at 100% CPU USAGE then it is likely a program of some sort causing this (that may not necessarily be a virus). Click on the PROCESSES tab if the CPU USAGE is up to 100% and does not seem to go down. Click on the CPU column to sort by CPU USAGE and then look near the top (or bottom, depending on how it sorted) to see which programs are using up all the memory. It is very common for SYSTEM IDLE PROCESSES, which is a normal windows process, to stay up near 97. When other programs get up near 100 there and do not go down, it usual
It sounds like you need to run a disk clean up. I had to do this to my computer not to long ago. Go to you control panel and click on performance and maintenance and it should say something like free up space on your hard drive and click. It doesn’t take long and will probably solve your problem. Hope this helps.
