My company owns and operates plant other than lift trucks, what is the licensing system for that?
There are no government issued licenses for workplace transport. However, there is an Approved Code of Practice that sets out the requirements for forklift trucks for which training is required. The law requires that each operator be given adequate training by their employer so that they are competent to operate the machinery, which they use (the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998; regulation 9). The Health and Safety Commission has recognised five bodies as competent to accredit and monitor organisations to train instructors and to train, test and certificate operators for rider-operated lift trucks. There is no HSC approved system for training plant operators other than lift truck operators.
