Do not bring toys or activities like coloring books to Gurdwara. Let your children understand that Gurdwara is the activity. Prepare for Gurdwara by dressing beautifully. Let your children understand that Gurdwara is a place to be very graceful, to meditate and to have a deep inner experience of the Guru’s presence. Tell them, and show by example, how to sit straight and meditate. It’s okay to fall asleep, but it’s not okay to run around and play with friends. Sit up front so you are in the strong energy of the Guru and the Shabd kirtan. Let children know that they can play with their friends when Gurdwara is over. Help them to participate in the Gurdwara, carrying the Guru’s sword, waving the chauri sahib, sitting behind the Guru, doing kirtan, etc. It’s their Gurdwara too.
