My child loves peanut butter. Why is the Pre-K a peanut free environment?
A child currently enrolled in the Pre-K has a severe peanut allergy. He will have a reaction to any exposure to peanuts, peanut butter, peanut oil, peanut flour, and any peanut by product. The child may experience a reaction if he consumes, smells, or touches any peanut products. A severe reaction requires the use of an Epi-pen and immediate transport to the hospital. There are several alternatives to peanut butter. Almond butter, sunflower seed butter, and “Nutella” are great substitutes. Make sure to check labels on your child’s snacks, especially granola bars. Many contain peanut bi products.
