• Sigma-Aldrich offers two products for the detection of mycoplasma contamination. Product MP0035 is based on a PCR methodology. Product MYC1 is based on staining of DNA. Either product can be used to confirm if mycoplasma contamination is present. We also have antibiotic selective reagents; (Ciprofloxacin 17850) and a kit (MP0030) that could be used in the elimination of mycoplsama contamination. Having said this, for anything but the most valuable cell lines, it would be most advisable to discard cultures as soon as mycoplasma contamination is suspected, and start the culture again. ECACC (The European Collection of Animal Cell Cultures, part of the HPA), offer a mycoplasma elimination service for valuable cell lines. For details contact ECACC Technical Support Tel.
