My cats pregnant, can she still go into heat and mate during pregnancy?

Cats can actually become pregnant again while being pregnant in the first stages of pregnancies meaning it can become pregnant by two or more cats hience some of the larger litters it all depends on how long she has been pregnant.

It is very unlikely she will mate while she is pregnant or go on heat. To be safe, you could try and keep her inside and make sure she has somewhere safe and warm to sleep. During pregnancy, cats can be moody and hormonal, just like women, so will not always enjoy being cuddled and they may seem edgier than normal. They will have a nesting instinct and want to find somewhere safe and warm for their kittens to be born. It does sound that your cat is pregnant. Be sure to give her lots of TLC.

Cats are long-day breeders and polyoestrus. It means they come into heat multiple times during the season of more sunlight( Jan-Feb in northern hemisphere i guess). They come into heat approx every 2 weeks! They are also induced ovulators which means they don’t release the eggs until they have been mated. Greater success at churning out those babies. They can conceive from more than one father because (in laymans terms) they can have multiple babies. They (like dogs) will mate more than once during a heat with any random male cat! YES it is possible to have babies of varying ages due to matings in different heats (did that make sense?). Make sure she’s eating growth food to keep up the energy, fat and calcium and keep feeding it all the time she’s lactating.
