My cat is pregnant, how do I prepare for the kittens?
Before birth she will be looking for a nest so keep any closet doors closed if you don’t want a birth in one! Get a large cardboard box and put it somewhere warm, quiet and safe. Put it on it’s side as a cat den and put paper inside and encourage your cat to use it before the birth and it’s best to have a convenient place ready. We used to put 2-3 boxes in different places and sometimes had to move them when they were clearly rejected. You’ll know when the birth is close as nesting starts and if she chooses a box she will shred the paper to make a good nest for the kittens. Be calm with her and don’t over fuss her as this can increase her anxiety about the birth. When she is ready to birth she may start to cry be restless and purr but cats do like the quiet so don’t be surprised to come home from work or wake up to find kittens. This can last up to 24 hours before contractions start. Don’t worry to much about the birth its self as mum will usually manage it quite well alone but do try
When my cat was pregnant i did not know when she was going to give birth one day that she was sitting under my bed i pulled her out and she started giving birth to 5 kittens.. All u see when she gives birth with all the respect is something like a little yukky head coming out of her -ahem- privates just push her gently or carry her into a small area of your house where you will have put something for the floor not to get dirty.. after wards when she gives birth you will have to find a place yourself kind of hidden well where she could put her kittens but inside… from experience i tell you cats love wardrobes and they may change the places where they hide they kittens a lot of times but whenever she puts them be ready cause of course the kittens will do dirty… after two weeks their eyes will start to open and after a month they will be waling all over your house and start eating other things besides milk..
