My cage has tested higher than 600 ppm for lead and 250 – 500 ppm for zinc. What should I do?
A. For what I can determine from speaking to toxicologists, several vets, and others – If your bird has chewed on the cage parts (bars show signs of missing or worn paint) – you have an immediate problem and should get your bird to a vet for testing. If your bird does not chew on the cage parts and there are NO signs of missing, chipped or flaking paint then it “appears” your bird has not ingested any of the toxins. But when in doubt – take it to the vet.
