My AFP triple screen (AFP3 or Downscreen Plus) returned positive. What do I do now?
The first step after the return of a positive test is to undergo a dating ultrasound. If the results show that the dating has been incorrect, the AFP3 test results will be returned to the laboratory and recalculated. Usually the results will be returned to the normal range, with no further testing required. If the dates do turn out to be correct, your doctor will determine other testing that may be required such as an amniocentesis, an ultrasound performed by a perinatologist and possibly even genetic counseling.
