My 3 yr old Pit Bull has small scabs on his face and neck. What could this be?
Sounds like scars. They could just be from a skin condition. However, if it wasn’t well taken care of it could be from being hit, being in fights, and improperly fitted collars. It could also be from bites from bugs like flies (esp. if it was kept in a small area with a lot of feces). My concern though is that it very well could have been used for fighting and since you’ve only had it for 4 months, you don’t know how it could suddenly become very aggressive especially if something triggers a bad memory. Dogs remember abuse well. I’m glad that you took the dog in and gave it a second chance but BE CAREFUL! And if you have young kids, you may want to reconsider if you don’t know it’s history. I DEFINITELY would take it to a trainer. Start with private lessons and then maybe a very small class with other dogs. This would be the best thing you could do for it. An experienced dog trainer can help you with concerns. Also, ask your vet what he/she thinks caused the sores. GOOD LUCK.
