My 2000 Toyota Camry LE idles rough, making loud rattling sounds, but runs beautifully when Im driving. Why?
The car runs like a dream while driving, but when stopped and idling it makes a lot of noise, kind of like the engine of a Ford Model A… any thoughts as to why and what I should do… the check engine light is on, but when I took it to my local Lube Shop that offers free computer diagnostics with a state inspection, they said it was just a bad seal on my gas cap and reset the computer. I got a new gas cap, but the check engine light has come back on and I still have the same rough idle… I get the feeling that they just reset the computer because whatever came up on the diagnostic was something they couldn’t fix, and they can’t legally pass me on inspection with the check engine light on, thus they would not get my business that day if they sent me away…. Any thoughts as to what might be wrong? I can afford to fix the problem for my car’s sake, but I just hate paying an ungodly fee for the computer diagnostic on top of the repair. A: try to check it out first on auto repair shop..
