There are no physical activities that are safe when you have IM. It is imperative that he takes complete bedrest to get well. If he tries to participate in the usual summer activities he will not be able to recover from infectious Mononucleosis. Epstein-Barr virus will always be in his system but will stay dormant. I had IM when I was in my senior year of high school and couldn’t do anything for 4 months. I was ill all summer before school started but ignored it. When summer band practice started I was very sick but still went to practice. The day before our first football game and half time show, I was walking home from the school, and got about half way and couldn’t go any farther. I was so exhausted I laid down on the sidewalk. Thank goodness someone drove by and saw me. I was taken to the hospital and was put on complete bedrest. I missed the rest of marching season and was allowed to attend but not march in the last game. I missed 4 months of school. Luckily I was able to make up
