First you need to determine what kind of worms the dog has, if they are long and stringy they are round worms, and if they are short and fat, they are tape worms. Yes, I agree the names are backwards but that’s just how it is. Now that you know what kind of worms the dog has you can go to the vet, tell them how much the dog weighs, and they can give you medicine for the dog. I don’t recommend anything over the counter as they never tend to work.

A person can only see tape worms, and pin worms with your eyes. Every other worm has to be seen under a microscope. So if you don’t know what type of worm your puppy has, the vet will have to decipher that and give the appropriate medicine. Don’t buy that crap over the counter when you don’t know what you are dealing with.

Puppies should be wormed every 2 weeks til they’re 3 months old. After this I think it’s once a month. Use an all purpose wormer to make sure you cover all of them. Wouldn’t hurt to worm everybody in your household either just to be safe. Keep all hands clean and out of mouths. Worm all other dogs and cats in the house too. In Aust you can get allwormers in the supermarket but if you’re not sure go to a vet or pet shop. Your puppy should have a 3 month checkup anyway, just ask the vet while you’re there.

Firstly, the person you bought the puppy off should have provided you with information about raising your puppy. If you are not already giving your puppy regular worm and flea treatment, and have to ask how to treat worms, you need serious education on puppy rearing. Please, for your puppy’s sake, get some help.
