I work as a transdermal scientist and have patents in the field.  The Dramamine patch was one of the early entries into the transdermal market and has proven to be effective. There are side effects like drowiness.  For children, I would recommend using crystallized ginger instead of the Dramamine. Crystallized ginger has a candy-like flavor and appearance. In clinical studies it is more effective than Dramamine and does not cause drowsiness.

While transderm patches are very effective for adults, you should contact your child’s doctor to see if patches are appropriate for children. If not, consider the old stand-bys of Dramamine, Bonine (makes them less drowsy), Sea Bands and old-fashioned ginger. The latter two are all natural, but not quite as effective as medication or a patch. Ask your pediatrician for kids’ doses of Dramamine and Bonine.
