My 11 week old puppy is very aggressive and hates me, what can i do?
And they wonder why there are so many abandoned pets in animal shelters – this is a perfect example. Instead of taking the time to try and understand your animal and to find out why he is behaving like he is, you just are going to take the easy way out and get rid of him. When you got this puppy it was a lifelong commitment to the dog that you would love him, raise him to be a good K-9 citizen and TRAIN HIM. You need to take the dog to a professional trainer since you do not have the patience to train him. He obviously has gotten the upper hand and he is using it in full force to train you. Before it gets worse, invest some time and money into a good professional dog trainer and nip this aggressive behavior in the bud, once and for all.
Give up and take him to a shelter since you are obviously reacting to this poor puppy as if he were a malicious human being and have no clue as to puppy behavior or how to deal with it. Failing that, get a book on puppies “Puppies for Dummies” is good (great book, dumb title) – study it, learn what puppies are like. This dog is playing with you, you are reacting like a victim – just plain silly. You’re a human being, you don’t wrestle with a puppy, you distract him by giving him a toy or a chewie. Why would you let him play bite you and then shake him – that’s like shaking an infant. Please – either get a handle on puppy behavior and act like a responsible dog owner or give the pup to a rescue so he can find a good home with people who treat him like a puppy, not the enemy.
There are several things going on here. 1) Start working with a dog behaviorist/trainer asap. 2) It sounds like you are not spending enough time on your puppy and the puppy is letting you know by raising the level of aggression to get attention. 3) Read some books about a dog’s development stages. 4) Find something you can do to distract the dog from biting you. Interrupt the behavior with firm “No, quit it, etc” but THEN give the pup a proper thing to chew on… toy, ball, etc. Praise the dog when he’s chewing the correct item. 5) NEVER TOUCH YOUR DOG when he is doing the WRONG thing. To a dog, touch EQUALS praise. ONLY pet the dog if it is doing something you want it to do. ONLY touch the dog when it is doing the right thing. 6) Use correction equipment (pinch collar or choke chain) to correct, then praise when behavior changes. Dogs do not learn from the correction. They learn from the praise. You should use 5 praises to every 1 correction. 7) Get your dog out and socialize him more
First, you must sit calmly by your dog and do not say a word to him or ‘growl at him!! Take your hand on his back and tell him ‘down’ and hold him down on the floor. (Do NOT push on his back that you are hurting him.) It might take only about 1/2 – 1 minute and he will finally realize what you want him to do and calm down. Once he calms down, slowly release your hand and gently start to give him a massage. I did this with my neice’s puppy the other night and it worked like a charm! They swore that I gave her drugs!!
