Must the IEP include a statement justifying why any removal from the regular education environment is appropriate?
Under the 1997 Amendments to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, it is presumed that students with disabilities will be educated in the regular classroom. Under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, the IEP must include an explanation as to why the student will not participate with nondisabled students in the regular classroom, including nonacademic activities.
