Must job application forms include a monitoring question on religion, belief and sexuality?
No. Monitoring is not a legal requirement under the terms of the regulations. However, where there is known to be a large and diverse religious community locally, monitoring applications may help councils to check that they are attracting a representative range of candidates. Similarly, in towns with high concentrations of lesbians and gay men, councils might also find monitoring job applicants useful. It will be for each employer to determine when or if monitoring would be beneficial. For all local government employers, anonymous staff attitude surveys can be useful in testing the general climate of the organisation. Are staff experiencing disadvantage or harassment because of their religion or sexual orientation?
