Must existing paraprofessionals pass a new proficiency test?
SB 1405 deems all paraprofessionals, who have already been tested previously, to be qualified. In fact, the State Board of Education (SBE) has held that school districts have the flexibility to implement this section of the law as they see appropriate. CSEA has discovered that despite the protections of SB 1405, there is an inconsistency of testing among school districts which creates unique circumstances that require specialized local interventions.
