Must an individual abstain from all mood-altering substances, including alcohol, while they are in treatment?
Yes. A mood-altering substance is a mood-altering substance whether it is a legal substance or an illegal substance. Individuals in treatment at The Lancaster Freedom Center must remain completely substance free of all mood-altering chemicals. Treatment cannot take place with an individual if their emotional state is altered. Although we recognize that relapse is a symptom of substance dependence, it is not a requirement for recovery.
