MRI reports congenital hypoplasia, stenosis or occlusion of the right vertebral artery. Anyone know?
It means your right vertebral artery is smaller than it should be. The radiologist is suggesting possibilities for this which include an artery that never developed properly from birth, narrowing from something (frequently atherosclerosis) or blockage by something. From what I recall from my neurology rotations, it is not uncommon for a person to have one vertebral artery that is narrower than the other. This may very well be an incidental finding that would have otherwise never been detected or problematic without this MRI. If your doctor is concerned about it, he or she will let you know. You should ask your doctor if you continue to be concerned.
