Mr Trehan, over the last six years, you have worked with three publishers – HT, Indiatimes and, now, NDTV. How have you seen internet publishing evolving over this period?
A. The most heartening thing I have discovered about the industry is that this time, the comeback on the internet is for real. Even earlier, I had always believed that the internet is a serious game changer. I think a lot of people, in the early phase of the dotcom evolution, got into it for the wrong reasons — to make a killing. In a way, I am glad that the bust happened because it separated the dust from the gold. Ultimately, like any other business, it is also about value creation. I think, perhaps we are in the most exciting phase of the internet in this part of the world. From a standalone medium, it’s becoming a converged network. In the last seven years, these changes have been the biggest. We are now looking at products on the web that will straddle cross-media platforms and not just the web.
