The people of Sydney deserve our congratulations on their efforts in saving water. Sydney now uses the same amount of water as it did in 1974 despite a population increase of more than one million in the area. No issue was the subject of more discussion during the run-up to the March election than water policy. In February, our water supplies had hit 32.4 per cent and not long after the Government made the decision to proceed with the desalination plant and build the only source of water that is not rainfall dependent.
