more effective if taken daily or just when needed?
It is definitely the case that this med is more effective if taken sporadically (particularly given that you are saying you need it only in very stressful situations such as an audition). Your body will, indeed, develop a tolerance for it if taken on a regular basis (as is the case with other benzodiazapines). Perhaps a better option for you would be to take a non-addictive medication with anxiolytic effects (e.g., anafranil) on a daily basis, and keep the xanax to use PRN (as needed).
You spoke to your doctor & he told you it was okay to take 25 mg. so trust his word, & take them. Take it daily or nightly at the same time. Once it gets into your bloodstream, it will do what it’s supposed to do. Taking it only when a situation arises, where you need it, isn’t how you are supposed to tale it. You need to relax & stop getting panicky about the Xanax. Don’t get freaked out over a personality change by taking it either. You will not turn into a zombie. It’s supposed to mellow you out, so you won’y be so anxious, so let it do its job. You’ll feel so much better & better able to deal with life & what may come your way. You want to feel better, right? Then stop biting off your foot, & take the Xanax. I know many who take it & it has helped them a lot. They are so pleasant to be around once more. Take the Xanax, & you will be too. Keep yourself busy so you won’t keep dwelling about your fear of what the medication will do to you. I assure you, you will NOT grow two heads & h
I have taken Xanax in the past, anxiety related as well. You have to try to keep it for emergencies. If you take it often the effect will be less and less, meaning you dont get the effect when you need it (with a normal dose) and you risk getting addicted. You really dont want to get addicted to this family of drugs (benzodiazepine) cause then you end up with 2 problems : your anxiety + a serious drug addiction For an ongoing effect, I had antidepressants (from the SSRI class, Effexor being the best one I used), which is way safer+not physically adictive like xanax(bezodiazepine), and also has a mood tempering effect recuding anxiety.(it doesnt mean you have to be depressed) Didn’t notice any ‘personality changes’ but then I never was addicted to Xanax. If you really want to take xanax daily (which I would not advise) you have to take the “slow release” version of the product, not the regular fast working one, since it works out fairly quickly (especially when you start to use it often
