Monitor Calibration and Profiling: Whats the Difference?
To calibrate is to change the behavior of a monitor (or printer or scanner) to return it to a standard. Periodic calibration will maintain the monitor so that the way it produces color will stay consistent over time. To Profile is to analyze the monitor to see how it produces its color. With aprofile you can tell other applications (like Photoshop, for instance) how to convert color settings so the image looks right on screen. In practice, most monitor calibration and profiling software performs both of these tasks at once and you may not notice when it moves from one task to another.
