Mobile sounds great, but how do we handle the phone system if all the lines are down regionally due to the disaster?
( top ) Traditionally, this has been a difficult problem to address. Up until last year, the only real option if the phone lines were down was cell phones. This did little to help with any type of call-distribution arrangement. Although a connection box can be built to handle networks or phone systems, they may be affected by the same disaster as the one that affected your building. That’s why the advent of satellite communications in the recovery industry has been so exciting. It is now possible, without any terrestrial connections at all, to have phone systems, ACD capability, and network connectivity over the satellite. For the first time, you are not vulnerable to the infrastructure problems that can surround a regional outage, and recovery can in fact be local – and mobile.
