As for the cost of wear on equipment and time spent duplicating tapes fansubbing should be a hobbist activity. If you are distribution so many tapes it hurts your VCR and reduces the quality of personal life I suggest a different hobby. Not that many years ago distributors would only provide tapes to clubs which greatly reduced the time spent duplicating tapes and at the same time placed tapes in many fans hands. It also provided a great incentive to attend club meetings to watch lots of fansubbed anime with others and then borrow tapes from the club library.
