Mirrored lenses-what’s all that about?
A. A front surface mirror is designed to reflect a percentage of the light reaching it before the lens filters begin to act on it. This has the effect of significantly reducing the light transmission of the lens, which can be useful in extremely bright conditions, such as skiing. Some of the latest lenses have relatively light tints plus a mirror, making them easier to use in lower lighting levels, but with sufficient glare protection if the weather brightens up. Others have harder, brighter, mirrors.
