Million poor pupils denied free meals – Is this how new labour tackle child poverty?
This government says one thing but does the opposite, it wants us to spend and at the same time save for a pension and pay off our debts. Its wants the banks to be more responsible in their lending yet accuses them of now being too cautious and its policy on child poverty if no different. It looks and sounds good when some Labour MP or government minister appears on TV saying that they are determined to eradicate child poverty but in reality don’t give two hoots about the poor or anyone else except themselves and their careers. This Labour government is not a mean government, its a government that doesn’t care, it just doesn’t care about anyone or anything especially about what happens to the poor and its as simple as that. Cool Hal and RLP You are probably the very same people who go round spouting rubbish that the reason we need a open door policy on immigration is because the British birth rate 20+ years ago was not high enough to fill all of these so-called present day employment v
The government, for all its faults, did not produce children they couldn’t afford. That decision was made by parents. Shouldn’t the parents be taking responsibility for feeding their children? I am not without sympathy as I grew up in extreme poverty but we didn’t expect anyone else to feed us. I agree that we need to support families who, through no fault of their own, find themselves in temporary difficulties and there is no excuse for the administrative incompetence that stops this happening. At the same time, I believe people should take responsibility for their own lives and the lives of their offspring.
Unfortunately, New Labour’s solution is not to tackle a situation, but to make it worse. A prime example would be the war in Iraq. It’s just sad that children have to suffer as well. Look at the Baby P story, for example. That wouldn’t’ve happened if New Labour had in place better trained social workers to deal with the problem.
