Might the mold being detected in my home just be left over from construction?
Yes, this is possible. Sometimes building materials are left in the rain and installed wet. This could mean that the materials were moldy before they were installed or that mold grew after the installation. It is also common for a construction project to spring a leak or two, sometimes flooding the entire structure, during the building process. If the building materials were not dried out properly (they usually aren’t), then mold may have grown in unseen areas of the home even before it is occupied. If you are able to inspect your new home as it is being built, do it, do it often and look for any signs of water damage.
