Might Hannibal silence Lambs at box office?
Well, sure, “Hannibal” made $58 million in its first weekend of release, but how does it compare with its decade-old predecessor, “The Silence of the Lambs”? The story “The Silence of the Lambs”: The 1991 thriller, based on Thomas Harris’ novel, was about an FBI search for a serial killer who skinned his victims. FBI trainee Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster) turns to imprisoned sociopath Dr. Hannibal “The Cannibal” Lecter for assistance. “Hannibal”: Again based on a Harris novel, this sequel has Lecter living under an assumed identity in Florence, while the fortunes of Starling (now Julianne Moore) have fallen. She’s on Lecter’s trail and so is his onetime victim, Mason Verger (Gary Oldman).
