Might any other parts of Vermont be close to the kind of critical mass Chittenden County has?
ENGELBERTH: The only two I think have potential are the White River-Hanover area, and possibly the Rutland area. However, Rutland’s not having Interstate access is a tremendous strain. And I think in the knowledge-based economy we re moving to, most economic growth will occur around major educational institutions. For instance, all the southern New Hampshire economic dynamic comes from Boston, with its educational institutions. I think Dartmouth is on the threshold of creating that kind of dynamic economy in the Upper Valley. VBM: You are running for the state Senate. ENGELBERTH: Yes. VBM: Why? ENGELBERTH: In the construction business, you touch many parts of the state s economy and geography, and you gain a keen appreciation for the role of each individual.
