Microsoft Word formatting problem driving me crazy (resume)?
Before I go too far, did you try the resume templates? If you looked at them and did not find what you wanted, OK, you designed your own, and good for you. What I would do for that line is put the lines in first. Then go back to the beginning of each line and switch to the Insert key. That way, you can type the word in whatever form you choose, but you don’t replace any of the line, you insert over it. I just tried it myself (haven’t done this for years!) and it works. You can set your underline by clicking on Format, Font and choose underline style. Or you can do it the old fashioned way – hold down the Shift key and press the underline until you reach the end of the line. If you go too far, backspace until you are at the end of the line. Then go back, switch to Insert and type your header. I didn’t ask what you are using, but if it’s Office 2007, there are differences there that this won’t address. I use Office 2003 or Office XP. Okay, so don’t mess with that way, it will drive you absolutely nuts. Write out your resume the way you want, don’t worry about the lines until it’s complete. Then, click on Insert, Picture, Autoshapes. This will open a little toolbar that has some shapes on it. Click the first one, and then use it to draw the lines where you want them. I have Office 2000 so your toolbars may be a bit different if you have a newer or older version of Word.
