Metal Halides Too Close to an Acrylic Tank?

0

Hi guys, I have to tell you that WetWebMedia.Com has been an excellent source of information so far. I think I may have been taken in by the guy at my local pet store, though. I’m moving up from a 65 gallon to a 180 acrylic, rough measurements 70L X 24H X 18W. The oak canopy he sold me is only 6″ high, though. I’m concerned that mounting 3 metal halides under this canopy will put them entirely too close to the acrylic tank top. There will only be about 1 1/2 – 2 inches of clearance from the metal halide bulb to the surface of the acrylic. Isn’t that too close? I’m concerned about possible damage to the acrylic itself.
