Providers should first examine the person’s Medicaid card to obtain the client ID number. Using this number, the provider can access Medicaid eligibility information through the Medicaid Eligibility Verification System (MEVS). There are several methods to access this information, including a telephone system, a Verifone terminal, or a PC. More information on these options may be found at http://www.emedny.org When the provider does not have the person’s Medicaid CIN (Client Identification Number), the provider can call the NYS Department of Health at (518) 472-1550 and select the Name Search option. There is a charge of $.85 per minute for this optional service and a touch tone telephone is required.
