At the start of the Second Indochina (Vietnam) War (1954-1975), the US media was supportive of the US involvement in Vietnam although a few of the wire-service reporters based in Saigon were not happy with the activities of President Ngo Dien Diem. Most people in the US, if they knew anything about Vietnam, were supportive of the US involvement. From about 1961-1962 the reporters based in Vietnam started to question the validity of the US involvement, but their editors back in the US were still very pro-US involvement and this still showed in what was published. Most Americans were still supportive of the US involvement mainly as this was what they were reading in their newspapers or occasionally seeing on TV. By 1965, with the rapid increase in US involvement and troop increases, the Saigon based reporters were starting to openly question the US involvement and demand that their editors back in the US start reporting honestly, which many were not.
