Applicants applying for a substitute teaching certificate from the county superintendent must produce an approval letter from the Criminal History Review Unit prior to the certificate’s being issued. However, the employing educational facility may employ the substitute on an emergent basis if they demonstrate a need exists. A new criminal history record check is not required for renewing the substitute credentials providing the credentials have not expired.
