May students be excused from parts of the schools curriculam because of religion?

Depends on what the curriculum is, and the kind of teacher they have. I am a Christian, one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. I didn’t partake in things, such as making halloween decorations. It’s not like making decorations REALLY impacts one’s educational life, unless of course it is Halloween decorating class:D I usually spent such time studying, which helped me get ahead on my schooling. I loved it. If something about the curriculam really bothers a student but is deemed important enough, it often becomes a choice of taking an F, or doing the course, or finding a substitution. Example, one assignment in 5th grade was to talk about how wonderful, and how much I love Thanksgiving. I don’t celebrate it, so I gave a historical report about the holiday. The teacher however, unhappy with my being a Witness, appearantly, ridiculed it, and tried to give me an F. The point of the example, is allot of factors come in to play.

I can’t think of any classes that would prohibit ANY religion from learning except maybe electives, but those are ELECTIVES.

I know some people excused themselves from philosophy class because of their religious views…

Ok,NO.Y should ppl judge you by your religion. That isn’t right because that is just saying that christians have no respect for others because of there religion.

I believe they can be excused from sex ed. And for those who think that’s a bad idea: I think it’s a bad thing that parents in our country have gotten so busy with their lives and lazy with caring for their children that they cannot have these basic discussions with their own children, making it the school’s responsibility. Then, people complain that the classes are inappropriate! That is a personal and private matter. Why should anyone have to sit in a class of 30….co-ed…and listen to ideas about how they can go have sex before they’re ready because now they know how not to get pregnant or get diseases? I am not a fundie or anything…that’s just my view. I think it’s great that you can opt out of that class.
