May my child play his musical instrument and/or participate in contact sports while having orthodontics?
Yes. It will take the same period of “adjustment” to get used to the feel of new materials in the mouth whether a person plays a musical instrument or not. The quality of play will not suffer due to wearing braces or a Herbst appliance or retainers. Likewise, yes active sports may be played throughout treatment …simply wear a mouthguard for protection against injury and have a good time.
