At present, the Association does not specifically state a minimum age of entry for social workers. Rather the most important requirement for entry into the social work profession is one’s formal training in social work, through an accredited social work degree programme. A formal training in social work is needed in view of the need for an application and utilization of social work skills e.g. assessment, intervention, case management skills, in the course of work as a social worker. These are usually attained through a rigorous course of social work study, including field placements and skills training, which imparts the social work principles, knowledge, ethics and skills needed for the job.
