The correct reference here is not Matthew 17:11, but rather Acts 14:19. Some do believe he was indeed stoned to death and at that time experienced his third heavenly vision as recorded in 2 Cor. 12:1-4. However, others would argue he was not killed based on the last part of Acts 14:19, where we read “the people drew him out of the city supposing he had been dead.
