Many studies, workshops and management plans have already been undertaken in the wetlands — how are these Environmental Management Plans any different?
The Environmental Management Plans will collate the historical range of studies and knowledge for both wetlands into plans that identify the wetlands’ key assets, and their current condition, and outline necessary management actions. The EMPs will make recommendations regarding environmental targets, and provide suggestions for the indicators and strategies to achieve these targets. Scientific studies are being undertaken to define the ecological character of the wetlands. These studies include the natural variability of the wetland assets, key ecosystem drivers, interactions between ecosystem components, hydrology and land management. The community will also play an important role in the development of the EMPs through the input of local knowledge and through identification of what information would be useful.
