Many schools and school divisions have policies in place that restrict the use of tobacco on school grounds. Some of these policies are specific to smoking and some include all tobacco use; however the policies are not the same across the province. Provincial legislation means all schools will have consistent policies which include both smoked and smokeless tobacco use. In addition, the provincial legislation provides the opportunity for the Ministry of Health to support schools in implementing the ban.
