Many of the sophomores, juniors, and seniors I meet in the ParkSchool have minors. Is a minor required?
First off, some majors in Park do indeed require minors. However, no degrees in the Cinema and Photography program require minors. That said, most BS students, because they have more flexibility with electives, do indeed try to have minors. The faculty strongly encourage minors in areas outside of Park so that your degree experience is broadened and deepened. Some students even have two minors! Given the current trend towards globalization and convergence of media industries worldwide, most of the faculty will encourage you to consider a minor in an area of passionate interest, and also suggest delving into a language other than English. A minor provides a organized intensive intellectual experience, and often assures that students will get seats in upper level seminars and tutorials in these other areas. Your advisor can help you figure all this out.
