Manor Farm is part of the Ouse Valley Linear Park – Why extract gravel here?

0

Milton Keynes Council has to identify sites to produce 800,000 tonnes of sand and gravel up to 2006. The proposed gravel extraction at Manor Farm will meet nearly all of this need, and provide the means to create and finance the floodplain forest restoration project. It is a fully worked up environmental enhancement project developed by MKPT over the last six years. The floodplain forest restoration forms the park development plan for the area. It involves a very high quality restoration with the objective of making it a more ecologically valuable, more interesting and more attractive parkland, incorporating a tremendous variety of habitats for wildlife and so providing considerable nature conservation, landscape and amenity benefits for future generations, as well as creating a unique local public amenity.
