Macbeth, a tragedy written by William Shakespeare in 1606, is based on Raphael Holinshed’s Chronicles of England, Scotland, and Ireland. The Chronicles records the career of the real Macbeth who was married to Lady Bruoch Macbeth. He killed King Duncan I of Scotland in 1040, seized the throne, and was overthrown by Malcolm, Duncan’s son, seventeen years later.
