Sometimes it appears that we send everybody to a fire call. In reality, departments in northern Virginia analyzed all the jobs and tasks necessary to safely and effectively put out a house fire. These tasks include searching for victims, attacking the fire with hoses, ventilating the toxic smoke from the structure, and searching the structure for places where the fire may have extended to or even be hidden. Dispatchers will send enough engine companies, truck companies, and EMS units to have enough personnel on the scene to do all these jobs.
